Huauhquiltamalli or ‘Green Stone Tamales’ for Izcalli

This project was inspired by the release of the digitized Florentine Codex by the Getty Research Institute. I came across a description for a tamale dish that I believed I could reasonably recreate .

This dish is a recreation of tamales as they would have been prepared for the Mexica festival of Izcalli, honoring the god of fire, Xiuhtecuhtli.
